The Washington Post documents that Trump failed to make a dubious claim on only 10 of his first 100 days.
In a tweet, the President accused news media of failing to acknowledge its accomplishments.
He also spoke at a rally in Harrisburg, PA, that was marked by a savaging of the news media. In so doing, he skipped the annual White House correspondent’s dinner.

The House passed (382 to 30) stopgap spending legislation to avoid a government shutdown. The Senate approved the budget measure unanimously. The temporary measure kept the government in business for a week; Congressional recess begins on Friday 5 May.

- Trump signed an executive order that would allow national monument designations to be rescinded or reduced in size “as the administration pushes to open up more federal land to drilling, mining and other development.” No president has ever rescinded a monument designation.

- In an unprecedented move, Trump asked the full US Senate to come to the White House for a briefing on North Korea. Usually for such briefings, the President goes to the Senate due to security and required room size.

- Trump hosted conservative media at the White House, including Breitbart News. He announced a 20% tariff on softwood imports from Canada. Canada is the nation’s second largest trading partner:
Responding on Monday to a complaint filed by American mills, the Commerce Department found that five Canadian companies received subsidies worth 3 percent to 24 percent and ordered equivalent tariffs on each of them. For other Canadian lumber companies, it set a tariff rate of 20 percent. The department will issue a final determination in September.

AP poll (margin of error, +/- 4%) found that 61% of adults believe Donald Trump’s relationship with Russia is extremely or moderately important. Only 23% believe it is not important. About half, 52%, favor an independent investigation into whether the campaign had inappropriate contacts with the Russian government. Only 23% oppose such an investigation. Given that more voters picked Clinton than Trump on November 8, this result is not surprising.
