Trump’s golf outings: January – March 2017

Before becoming president, Donald Trump used Twitter to criticize President Obama for playing golf. He promised voters that he would eschew golf. But since becoming president, he has made regular trips to his golf clubs.

According to The Washington Post:

No modern president took less vacation than Jimmy Carter (79 days), while Ronald Reagan spent 335 days at his beloved California ranch.

With that in mind, here is a record of Trump’s outings.

Day 66, March 26 (Sunday, Virginia)

Trump has visited a golf course 13 times in the nine weeks since he was sworn in as president.

He then ate dinner at his hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Activists vandalized Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. They carved a message into the green at hole five; the six-foot-tall letters said: “NO MORE TIGERS. NO MORE WOODS.”

Trump’s first dinner “out” in D.C. took place at his own hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue. The White House reporters who accompany Trump each day, called the pool, were not permitted to enter the hotel. Trump leased the Old Post Office from the federal government. The lease states that no U.S. elected official “shall be admitted to any share or part of this Lease, or to any benefit that may arise therefrom.”

Trump’s Jupiter, FL National Golf Club lost $5.7 million class action lawsuit; 65 members claimed that they had lost access to the club when Trump took over the course. U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth Marra awarded the former members their membership deposits plus interest.

Mar-A-Lago resort in Palm Beach, FLChristmas and Thanksgiving ($7 million)

Congress recently appropriated $7 million to reimburse state and local law enforcement agencies for overtime costs associated with protecting Trump before his inauguration. Palm Beach County says the county spent $250,000 for security support for Trump during his four-day visit over Thanksgiving.
