There are worrisome data - both cases and deaths - in Sunday's COVID-19 report from 47 US states and the District of Columbia. Texas and Louisiana reported more deaths on Sunday than the prior weeks’s daily average. California, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri reported a larger average daily case rate for the week ending 25 July than for the week ending 19 July. This suggests additional efforts need to be implemented to contain the virus.
It’s day 162, and as the pandemic becomes more politicized, it's not a surprise that the number of Republicans who think COVID-19 is overhyped has jumped to almost two-thirds.
Two months ago, 24 April, the US set a record for daily reported COVID-19 cases: 36,739. Today, we passed that record, with 36,975 new cases.
