Proseminar: Intro to Web Technologies, Languages

This proseminar is designed for the student who is new to web technologies. Topics covered include web languages (html, xhtml, css, javascript) and servers (Apache, Microsoft Internet Information Server). Students will produce a website using valid XHTML on their UW (Dante) account.

1 credit = 8 hours face time plus minimum 15 hours out-of-class work

    • Introduction and Chapter 1, Web Page Building Blocks, in HTML, XHTML, and CSS, Sixth Edition.
    • Chapter 1, 99% of Websites Are Still Obsolete, and Chapter 2, Designing and Building With Standards, in Designing With Web Standards, Second Edition.
  • Install Software:
    • For Mac students, install Text Wrangler (free) and SecureFetch (free).
    • For PC students, install NoteTab (free) and SecureFTP (free).
