Where’s The Background? Ogilvy Taiwan’s “Dream Rangers”

This is a fabulous 3-minute commercial (it feels like a movie trailer) for TC Bank, based, it says, on a true story. The videography and editing are so good that subtitles really aren’t needed. (They do add some context.)

If you had a video with 2M+ views, wouldn’t you provide a link to a page with background info? Who are these men? How did Ogilvy learn their story? I can’t find anything on Ogilvy’s website or through Google (most of the hits are embeds of the YouTube clip).

Our 5 nursing students are creating a video on older adults and planning for successful aging. We just love seeing your video! We would like to see if we could get the clip where one of the gentleman is riding the bike as one of the still/or 3 second clip. The diversity and energy from the image would be a great addition!

In 2007, a non-profit organization (for helping the elderly) in Taiwan organized an activity to recruit 20 elderly people to ride motorcycle surrounding Taiwan. 3 didn’t pass driver’s licenses test. The youngest one is a 72 years old grandma. The remaining story is the same – average 81, couples of them got cancers, heart diseases, and other aging related health problems. The spent 13 days for 1131km. The organization spent half year to prepare this activity and made a documentary film. Four years since the trip, two of them have passed away…

Thanks so much for the information! I, too, had been wondering about the context, who’d created the ad and when, and whether the actors played themselves. I couldn’t find related info online, either. Isn’t it a terrific piece?

Thank you for all these specifics. It sounds like a fascinating event, and organization. Do you know the name of the host group?
