For the third quarter, Verizon reported a 42.5% increase in revenues from mobile data service. Wowza! The media company (it’s hard to think of them as a “phone” company) reported a 31% increase in third-quarter net income, not quite the same league as oil companies, but close.
Verizon customers sent or received more than 80 billion text messages; that’s a number that is hard to visualize, but recognize that the company has 71 million wireless customers. On average, that’s more than 100 text messages per customer (or one a day). (It added 2.1 million new wireless subscribers in the third quarter, with a 1.03% retail post-paid churn.)
