According to the NYT, CBSNews.com general manager Betsy Morgan is leaving the organization to become the chief executive for the HuffingtonPost, an online blog portal that is 2.5 years old.
Morgan, 38, on the HuffPost:
“Huffington Post has a lot of smart editors working for it,” she said. What the site does well, Ms. Morgan said, is “take a news story and build a community of debate around it.”
Kenneth Lerer and Ariana Huffington founded the website in May 2005. The NYT reported that Lerer “has been trying to position itself as a gathering house for news on a range of subjects beyond politics, including media, entertainment and lifestyles.”
However, the site is known for its left-leaning politics. Featured bloggers have included both pop culture figures, such as Nora Ephron, Bill Maher and Norman Lear, and politicians, like Joe Biden, Wesley Clark, John Kerry and Nanccy Pelosi.
