Innovation for Human-Centered Network

This is the second keynote at the WWW2005 conference in Chiba – NTT’s R&D on human-centered network. Interesting demonstration of how the human eye processes color in motion: moving goldfish in full cover … greyscale … as pink against grey … as green against grey.

Notes from slides. Overview: NNT = US$ 110 Billion, 200K employees. Subscriber growth to FTTH (fiber to the home) is growing and ADSL is declining; ADSL is 3600 yen/month and FTTH is 2500 yen/month. Japan’s IT strategy is to move from “e-Japan” to “u-Japan.”

Themes during this transition: conversion to broadband (IP and optical) … convergence .. fixed-mobile convergence … safety and security … reduce environmental loads.
