I went to Glenn Fleishman’s blog as an interim step en route to WiFi Network News. Along the way, I learned that Movable Type has “created a firestorm by releasing their 3.0 version with practically no new features and introducing mandatory pricing for a number of licensing categories that were previously free.”
MT is the underlying technology for TypePad, which hosts this blog. Obviously, I don’t mind paying for products that are useful (TypePad is not free). Was this an attempt to slip something under the rug or an honest PR/marketing mistake by a young firm? Too early to tell, but the company’s willingness to air this dirty laundry and make almost on-the-fly changes to pricing suggests the later.
