Nick identified the fact that terminal was back in shell prompt (psh) state rather than mysql> state. I don’t know if that happened on the PCs, but maybe.

The instructions say “type the commands” but we were all “copying and pasting” … and the backspace kicks you out of “mysql>” and back into “psh”. Woot!

Why? I have no idea. I had a hint that it would would when I could actually stop the mysql server.

What doesn’t work? I can’t create a database … because I don’t have permission (“no privileges”). Leading me back to my gut feeling that the root problem is the “grant all privileges” problem…

And now I can’t stop the server. Again. Arghhhhh!
